Orange, France

If you happen to see Orange in France, I am sure that you have got to encounter the well-known Threatre Antique. This best-preserved Roman threatre hosts numerous theatrical and operatic productions that draws large audiences from all walks of life. You would probably have asked why Orange? So common and simple name? Actually, its name, according to the facts that I have gathered is thought to derive from its original Roman name of Arausio and it was the home of the counts of Orange, a title which Charlemagne created in the eighth century. What an intriguing name!

Furthermore, the threatre features vast sites and one of the highlight is the large statue of Augustus Caesar which stand tall in an alcove in the centre of the wall. Plus, up the hill, behind the threatre, you can view the scattered ruins of the seventeenth-century castle of the Princes of Orange where Queen Juliana of Holland planted an old tree in tribute to her ancestors. Plus, not only that, you can also view the other major Roman monument like the Triumphal Arch which it stands to be the Via Agrippa, the road linking Arles to Lyon. Moreover, the Musee Municipal, the village of Chateauneuf-du-Pape can also be found here.

It is so simple to get there, you should ride a train from Paris, Lyon, Avignon or Marseilles.

There you go! Orange got everything for you. In your visit, I am sure you want to travel to the beautiful spots of old views in Orange. Happy trip!
