Fuji-san, Japan: See the Summit

It has been known as the most recognizable landmark, Mount Fuji. This is actually the almost perfect volcano which is venerated by the Japanese, Fuji-san, their most sacred mountain.

During summer, people like to be at the summit to see the dawn and during nighttime, torches can look like a trail of lava on the mountainside. It is from the small town of Fuji-Yoshido is located the traditional departure point to Mount Fuji. Walking, one can reach at least 11 to 12 hours before reaching the summit. The ascent is divided into sections or what we call stations. Usually also, people take the bus to Lake Kawaguchi fifth station, where the road comes to an end, and set off from there.

On July and August is the main climbing season. You can stay resting in huts but be sure to book in advance to make ahead reservations. Going to the top to see the crater, it takes about an hour to walk. Snow covered between October and May.

Wat Tham Pha, Thailand: Monasteries are located

Do you know that there are beautiful temples that are located above the mountains in Chiang Dao? Tourists find it remotely discovered because it is located in the mountainous area. But it is the place where the monasteries reside. The atmosphere is dominantly spiritual. It is made of simply of stones.

But if you want to discover the remote beauty of the temple, you need to climb a pathway that meanders up and through the forest. Yes, the venue is forested because it is surrounded by tall trees and with bougainvillea. There is frangipani down the rocky outcrops as well. The only sounds that you can hear as you are in the place are the chirping of the birds and the monks sweeping the leaves from the path and steps.

As you reach the temple and go to the highest level of it, you will see the beauty of life. It is absolutely spectacular.

But if you have time, you can also go visit these places like The Dao Caves, the Elephant Training Center at Taeng-Dao and Chiang Mai. Be sure to bring extra cash for the entrance fee.

Items travelers bring home after traveling

Traveling stores the chance to see the beauty that the world has. When you go to various places, you will be amused, wonder, amaze and curious about the things that you have found there that are not present in your country which makes you always posing for smiles and take pictures.

The happiness that one gets out from traveling are not payable by any price, not even money can pay. The memories-spent are diverse. But still, after taking all the things with you, memories, pictures, stuffs, etc. you need to go back to your original abode, your place. But journeying as you travel does not end there, you are taking all the chances to bring home the wonders that you have discovered as you go home, mostly things that can remind you of the place.

Mostly when people travel, the most that they bring home back from traveling are (not in sequence according to the order of its importance):

1. Pictures. The captured moments are well-kept in their cameras or videos as a testify that they are really in the place. Their smiles and poses reveal many meanings of fun, excitement, enjoyment and love of nature. These well-kept souvenirs are lifetime marks of how extraordinary and worth remembering the things that they do. The memories will be heightened more as they pass it from their children and their children’s children.

2. Travel Tickets. It is not new to know that travel tickets are not exempted from my list. How can a person go or went back home if he has no travel tickets. This is just a simple revelation that he is in travel and is ready to go to a specific destination. When he goes home, he will bring it along with him. That is his passes to proceed in his journey. Without it, he will not be able to reach a place.

3. Passport. In order for him to go to other country, he deeply needs the help of his passport. It is the only thing that can let him do business and make a wonderful travel trips to other places of the globe. And in coming home, he does bring it with him too. That is why, of all the things when traveling, you should not forget to bring your passport. If is so impossible for you to enter and to exit without it. You need to present it in the embassy or the deportation area.

4. Documents. People who are traveling for a business meeting and so, bring along with them the important documents at hand. These papers are the ones that they also bring back home. It is the important proposals and agreements of their business that makes the papers important to transport back home.

5. Personal Belongings. Their vests are the sole garments that wrap them, unless they are going to just buy clothing in the place where they are going. They can be seen in their baggage or bags.

6. Souvenir Items. Travelers find it new to discover things from their visited country which are not present in their own native land. Therefore, many of them are buying lots of souvenirs for their families, friends, for themselves or for the idea of adding them inside their homes. Souvenir items can be figurines, books, paintings, accessories, bags, clothes, papers, perfumes and many more.

7. Unexplained Memories and Experiences. The non-stolen captured reality is rarely experienced by everyone. Only the well-traveled person can tell how exactly in his fresh memories all are imprinted, the vibrant, colors, the locations, reactions, actions, and many others. It can be stolen in time.

That is why, it is so important to travel. It makes a person a well-diversed individual. It is the experiences and the memories counts.

In Giving Tips When Traveling (Reminders for Travelers)

Traveling is money-tasking. It is expensive to travel especially when you go having a trip around the globe. Money is inseparable when traveling. How can families, friends, lovers and how can you travel without reserved money at hand?

In traveling, you need to pay the transport fees, the reservation fees, the accommodation services, food and of course, you need to share more cash for tips. Is giving tips illegal? Is there a law that prevents travelers in giving tips? How much do we give to servers as tips?

The moment I stepped into one of the Asian country, at first, I don’t know why the porter opened wide his hands after carrying my baggage from the airport to the taxi. My common sense initiates fastly to grasp for meaning, then, I realized that he asked for tip which I gave him gratitiously.

On my way to the hotel, I was thinking much of the person’s face, asking for tip. I pity him a lot. Carrying my baggage is indeed heavy and he deserves the tip anyway.

What is with tips really?

For numerous times now that I travel a lot. I am not that greedy to give tips especially when I see that the person serving me is that needy and I know that he needs to earn, probably for his family.

There was a moment as I had my fourth travel to the Asian country that because of curiosity, I asked the porter boy as I took him to have snacks with me, about why they (porters) need to do serving the travelers in a way that they will earn just little from it. I was touched by his reply that because of his responsibility, rearing 5 children and the wife has no job. His youngest son is just 3 and the eldest is 12. In order to bring home food for his family, he is just being contented with his job as a porter than to illegally rob as what robbers and thieves do. What he did is totally right. Of course, it is not proper to steal and let one’s family eat the food from an illegal acts.

To my pity on him, I gave him extra cash because I knew in his personality, he is really making big sacrifices for his family. Then, after eating, I told him never to give up in life because I know that he will surely succeed in life someday.

I can’t judge people who served me when I travel because they are asking for tips. You can actually look in the eyes if they are good or not. But for my friend, he is a good person.

What then is with giving tips in traveling anyway?

Tips, probably extend help in the family. As my friend told me, he is just contented to bring even just food for his children everyday out from what he earns as a porter. A little money is enough for them. It sounds pity and I am like fortunate to have many and even enough for my needs. And my friend just have little, but is happy. That is indeed a good spirit of not giving up.

Tips serve as a reward for the good things done. I appreciate people all the time and giving reward in the form of cash, even too little, soothes their wants. But aside from giving money, I also oftentimes give letters of appreciation or a congratulation letter, stating that I recognize their quality services and accommodation. I just want to give encouragement to them. I just want to make purpose of my visit, rather than, me just plain enjoying out from my stay. I want to give the impact of their lives and through simple appreciation, I can be able to give the spark of their job that they will love it more and do more good for people.

Tips add income. Most probably, people working in travel tour and hotels are enjoying meager salary. In order to add a little out from their income, travelers should give them extra, little amount of money. I can’t imagine that they are working all day round. Most of them are part-timers. The common sense of travelers like me should give at least a little glow in their faces by giving reasonable amount of tips (money). Probably, how much tips do they earn, they will divide that among all of the workers who worked in that day. That is also an extra help for them and their family.

But in the true scenario of traveling, travelers are not really obliged to give tips. But we have a soft heart that took pity in the lives of others, especially those servers who accommodates us in a foreign land. We don’t know what is their story why they are working hard to earn with small income and why they are risking their lives to work 24/7 nonstop work.

It is not to anger us, travelers if we go to various places that we have to give tips. Just remember, you only have to give tips if and only if the servers are asking little of your cash, if and only if you have the heart to start to run your common sense of giving them tips and if and only if, you find them really in need and you want to extend your heartfelt little help to reach them.

In this world, not all of us are living in a life of bounty. There are many people in the world who needs our help. Giving tips when traveling is not a big question that should be debated. We should need to understand that we are served with their quality services and being foreign in the place needs us to understand what they want. It is you, yourself that can evaluate if a server deserves to have a tip or not.

We can say that not all can be bought by money. Giving tips is not buying that service just to give us quality services. We are helping them in many ways for we don’t know what the is story behind their sacrifices from work is, earning little income which they, themselves find it enough.

We, travelers can identify if the servers are just making fun or neither joking us around nor fooling us, it is in our hearts’ desires that we can tell who and to whom or when do we give tips.

The Happiness in Traveling

Ever since I was a kid, I always dream to travel the world. I want to see in reality the pictures of wonderful creations of God that only in books can be seen. I want to experience to land my feet in the US and to journey until Europe. Now that I have almost had it all, I owe much to the chances of my life that leads me there. I have seen and observed tall buildings, wide roads, beautiful arts, different cultures and beautiful people. But what inspires me to travel more is the extraordinary experience that I get out from traveling.

Just like me, you too are experiencing the way I do…Here are what I call the happiness that I find (and you find also) in traveling….

Traveling makes me a knowledgeable person. The vibrant, real and sophisticated places answer the countless questions that I have asked when I was a kid – How does a building look like? How was it made? Who are the people in the US? What are their cultures? What is the form of government do they have? How many hours do I need to travel going to the US? What are their means of livelihood?, etc. These are just few of the questions that always linger on my mind back when I was still a kid. But now, that my dreams are coming true, I have experienced in totally and find answers to the questions I have before. It makes me a knowledgeable person because I have learned many things that others haven’t experienced. Knowledge should not only be limited to books. It is through personal experience that one really learns the things around him and how those things give meaning to life. I am not ignorant of going to places because I have stock knowledge and if I forget to operate things, I will knock on my prior knowledge.

The way the services in a hotel, the setting of the place, the practices and differences of countries are perfectly understand by someone if he has the personal encounter of being there, manipulating, doing and realistically performing, with both hands and all the senses activated. I can share my experiences to others on the things that I have observed and discover about my travel. I can speak more than what the book tells. I can be able to donate more ideas to an untraveled person. In having wide learning, this makes me a complete.

Traveling makes me a well-rounded person. The diverse cultures that I have encountered make me a well-rounded person. I gain more understanding why they have practices as like this or that. I can better comprehend why part of their culture is like this or that. I can easily adjust to their culture which makes me better adapt their system of living. But at first, landing in the US tasks me with lots of adjustments. It is like I am in a culture shock. Through modulating myself and accepting the instant life they have furthers me to really understand that all are part of their culture. But this I find no regrets because I want to be in the place that I can cope with living. I am happy to learn many things. I am very glad to know more about their living.

Being able to adjust to their culture makes me a well-rounded person because I was not drown on static growing of being stuck in the corner and don’t have coping mechanism of adjusting myself in the kind of atmosphere that they have.

Traveling makes me a person happy. When my husband said that we will be traveling this winter to Florida, that, I find happy because that is what I like. I will be able to see wonderful places that I have not seen in my entire life before. The newness of the creations out from the places that we have traveled makes me happy because I will have the chance to discover the place and its wonders. I will enjoy, have fun and experience the kind of feeling that can’t be explained everytime that I travel. Big smiles I do wear. It is so fun to travel. It makes me a happy person. The added knowledge gained from traveling is what makes me happy all the time.

Traveling makes me a sociable being. Compare a person who is just at home and all he knows for his entire life are those things that pertains at home. What indeed a limited time for oneself. But a person who travels, is not shy in the world. He will have all the access to be sociable and to observe the various persons in the world. He will know who Asian, Americans, Europeans and others is. Just simply making conversation in slight demand or request, makes a traveler a sociable and even a diverse being. The way he communicates reaches out even at the peak of learning their language and in what manner they behave. In as much as, traveling forms friendship. The acquaintances of people with varied cultures unite them to spread love and friendship even more. They unleash in them the hidden gap of miscommunication or misunderstanding due to varied nationalities. On the other hand, travelers do really have more in life. It is in the form of building relationships that keeps them attach even to the rest of their lives.

Traveling makes a person active. When you travel, you will become active. The first time I have visited a place, I never stop exploring other places. My first experience of traveling unstoppably makes me travel even more. Because of the experience that I find pleasure from going to one place to another, this makes me even more curious on places. I stay active traveling and even more. I can’t resist staying inactive because I want to see many things. It makes me alive. The enthusiastic involvement of a person in traveling will lead him to not quit traveling. He will always crave to see more places unstoppably.

Traveling makes a person healthy. Giving oneself a reward from much work can be best attained in going to places. In doing so, it makes people healthy. Traveling is a form of a healthy exercise for it activates all the senses. The feeling of wondering, curiosity and questioning motivate the brain to think more. He will see in his naked eyes all the creations, feel the breeze and warm wind touches his body, smell the fragrance of the cool air, walk, run, touch the sweet embrace of nature. He has more to learn in exploring and discovering. All the senses will be activated and it brings the goodness in him.

Traveling forms values to a person. Because of traveling, a person knows how to understand. If before, he is against nations about their cause of fighting for their rights, now, he understands why they really need to search for justice. When they go to various destinations, it is the culture, traditions, beliefs and practices that welcomes them. They will modulate their own perspective of how they philosophically believe things. They will lower down their heated pride and goes to the thought of understanding paired with respect, that every country should be respected for the diversity of the individual cultures. But no matter how diverse a country is, people have always the instinct to understand and respect each other’s beliefs.

If he is a kind of a judgmental person before, if he is a criticizer, then, probably now, he knows how to adjust himself of keeping silence, not to criticize but to appreciate. He will not have arguments to servers if they commit little serving mistakes. Instead, they will understand. They will realize that his country is more fortunate than them. He can say what is wrong in a country, but just treat everyone with respect. He is learning to form good values that he himself did not have before. In this, traveling is forming values. Traveling transforms lives. Traveling soothes lives. Traveling calms him.

Traveling makes a person artistic. By just merely looking at the figures of every art in encountering the beauty of a certain place, this gives the traveler an idea that ignites to develop and even enhance his skills in art. In going home, he will bring the learning he get from traveling, the shapes, colors, the things he want to bring home and to add to his collections. He brings home the art of extraordinary talent. Probably when he was in Italy, he saw the gothic and Barbarian style of designs which he thinks it is best to include that design, remodeling the façade of his house, just like the form of Italy’s taste. While looking at the paintings of the different artists, at home, he also wants to learn how to paint or he includes in the corners of his house, paintings of various genre and artistic styles from famous painters. When he shops in Asia and he finds it amusing to include exotic, tropical figurines, then, upon going home, he puts them in the sight on the right corner.

Simply, the joy in traveling makes a person artistic especially when he knows how to appreciate things. The way his observation goes beyond what others think, is a kind of curiosity and love of art that manifest in him. Because of the vivid experience, this will make him a more enthusiastic painter or artist of interior designs.

I am sure there are more happiness that defines your travel. But I have those lists above which I know you also have felt and experienced the so-called unexplained happiness we get out from traveling everywhere in this world. The only important thing when traveling is to enjoy and savor every moment last for life is so short that we need to extend finding the real meaning of life through the beautiful things God created for us.

I can say that I am at peace when I die because I never regret to see the creations that God set for me. I hope that you find your happiness too that makes you a whole being. Have fun traveling, the world is a gift for you.

Have a happy trip!

Philippines and the Filipino People

The Filipinos are the people who live in the Philippines. They are not just simply persons but they are citizens in the country with pride and values.

The Filipinos are the happiest persons in the world. In spite of the fact that their country belongs to the poorest of the poor, but still the people shows their perfect smiles and greet everyone, even those who they don’t know. Even if they are poor, they are happy.

When you go to the Philippines, you will be amazed with the people there, young and old, even children will greet you. You are like a super-star in their place. The Philippines is like a Hollywood because the moment you step in their country, the whole town will go to your home, greet and communicate at you. It is like they know your name, they know you pretty well. The moment you step on the Philippines islands, anywhere in the country, you will be entertained with their smiles, waves and friendly conversations.

It is part of their culture that when you enter into their house, they will serve you food on the table. This shows how hospitable they are. Even if you are just visiting a home, and talking for awhile, they never miss to invite you to dine with the family. They are ashamed to visitors if they can’t serve food in the table for them (visitors).

If you are close to the family, the moment you will enter their house, the children will say “amen” or they will show their respect to you by nodding their heads and let your hands touch their forehead. This is a sign of their respect to the elders. In some cases, they will kiss the cheek of the elders to show respect.

The Filipinos are very friendly people. They will ask you many things. If you are a foreigner to their country, you should not be afraid because they are very accommodating persons. Filipinos are sociable individuals. They will communicate with you perfectly in English. Even if the children who are in the mountainous places or those children living in the province, they can very well speak in English. That is why, it is never hard to communicate with the Filipinos using the international language. They are even very fluent in English because English is the medium of instruction in the school. Even if you look Filipino interviews on TV, most of the people who were interviewed speak in English even if the reporter asked them in their local dialects.

Moreover, Filipinos are very loving and caring persons on Earth. They are closed to their families. They are friendly to their neighbors and even to the people who they never knew. Even if you are a foreigner to their place, you are like at home in the Philippines. If the family experiences problems, everyone will help. If they need help of their neighbors, the neighbors will help them. If they need help in their province, the whole people in the province will help them. They really value family. They are family-minded persons. They help everyone even those who they don’t know.

Filipinos are sensitive to the needs of others. It can be seen in how they show their love and care to others. They think that loving others is like loving God and their family. That is why, they always tend to find solution to the problems even though if it is impossible to solve them, but they always find a way.

Filipinos are God-fearing. Most of the population in the Philippines believes in God. There are many Christian Catholic in the country. They rely their faith and trust in God at all times because God is their source of strength that in spite of their problems, they never find it hard to solve them.

Filipinos are very conservative persons, but they are open-minded. That is why, don’t open much about sex, nudity or malicious things because it will turn them off, unless if others can accept it. But when cases that you will open more about those things, it will make them feel insulted or hurt. For Filipinas (women in the Philippines), they don’t like man who is malicious. They don’t want to further talk about malicious things. But they are not that closed-minded. They just don’t want that too much bodily pleasures are dominant in a relationship. They want that their family life will be centered in God and that their children will be happy always recognizing the teachings of God. They are loving to nature, God and to the people. For a Filipina, they find their body as a temple of God that should be respected. Before you make love with Filipina women, present her first in the altar in the Lord. Every women’s body is sacred. It should be respected. That is why, never maltreat Filipina because no matter how sexy, beautiful and wonderful they are, they need to be respected all the times as they show much respect to God and their family.

Filipinos are hardworking. They never get tired working because they are hardworkers. They are always working to extend help anytime and everywhere they are in the globe. If you impede them not to work, they will get bored. They always find a way to work. They never get really tired in working. They respect their job. They always believe, “Love your work and the work will love you.” Time is precious to them. That is why, if you have a friend who is a Filipino, never wonder if that person loves to work because people in the Philippines are hardworkers, children, women and men.

Respect is very important for Filipinos. They trust people much and they don’t want to fail out from relationship. There are no divorces in the country. When problems in the family arise, they talk it over and get things solved. What Filipinos want is to be happy and to help others for the better glory of God.

It is fun to be in the Philippines. The people are very happy, God-fearing, sensitive, warm, caring and loving. That is why, if you want to be in the Philippines, you will surely feel home in the country.

Staples Center, Los Angeles, California, USA

Traveling to places is a healthy experience of embracing life. My friend, G and I had a wonderful time in LA last February 4-7 of this year. We had seen the sophisticated art and large buildings of LA. They are the skyscrapers. The non-stop excitement of our trip made us happily go around the place and we had more picture-takings. One of those captured moments is the view of the Staples Center.
The Staples Center is a multi-purpose sports arena which is the home of my favorite NBA player, the LA Lakers Basketball Team. It is not just a glimpse of the taste of LA that I oftentimes just read in books and seen them on TV, my feet destined me to press its weight on LA’s ground. Now, it is for real!
I am with the statue of the late long time Lakers broadcaster Chick Hearn. There is an available chair beside the statue, but I wasn’t able to take a sit, I prefer to stand beside him.

To recall, Chick Hearn was an American sportscaster. He is known primarily as the long-time play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. He was remembered for his rapid fire, staccato broadcasting style, inventing colorful phrases such as slam dunk, air ball, and no harm, no foul that have become common basketball vernacular.

Exploring Los Angeles, California stores another learning of my zest in traveling. I love the place. LA check!

Banaue Rice Terraces, Philppines

Philippines shares wonderful places in the tropic. With the diverse forms of natural resources from the country’s Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, Banaue Rice Terraces is regarded as the Eight Wonder of the World for it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The terraces which formed around mountains of endless stairway of cultivated rice and vegetable paddies were build over the past years by hands of the people in Batad. There is no problem with the irrigation system because it comes from the rainforest high in the mountains above and swiftly runs through the lower portion, making fair distribution to fed all the rice fields from top to bottom.

Because of the Batad’s love of their tradition for centuries, they want to preserve the vibrant nature of their living. That is why, they live with no electricity and no roads in the place. What dominantly marks are trails that serve as passageway.

Numerous tourists visit this beautiful scenery again and again. They are impressed with what Philippines has, the beauty of wonder and hard work of the Ifugaos (people living in the place) for their Banaue Rice Terraces.

Palawan Island, Philippines

Living here in the US always calls of my miss to my country, the Philippines. It is where I was born.

I have been through numerous destinations in the Philippines, but one tops the choice of my perfect cove of adventure is the Palawan Island.

Palawan Island is known for having one of the most beautiful seascapes in the world for it has the thousands of kilometers of protected coral reefs. Yes, thousands and even more of those wonderful corals in the blue waters and white sand.

As the waters are vastly aquatic, it is also the home of the endangered animals like the Palawan monkeys and parrots bear cats and peacocks, mongoose, scaly anteaters, porcupine and mouse deer.

There is another wonder that highlights the place, it is the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park that features cave and river network which it is thought to be the longest navigable subterranean river and its cavern contains an incredible array stalactites and stalagmites in all shapes and sizes.

There is also the Coron Bay, Busuanga, which consist of seven enchanting lakes surrounded by impressive craggy limestone cliffs.

No wonder Palawan is considered as one of the top dive sites in the world and divers come from around the world to see the 12 World War II Japanese shipwrecks which can be found there.

Indeed, my country, the Philippines has many places stored for all of us. It is absolutely an aquatic paradise!

East Haddam, Connecticut, United States of America

Old but kicking.

East Haddam is as old as 19th century time for it was erected according to the researchers during the steamboat era. The Victorian structures preserves its contain where it painstakingly restored the Goodspeed Opera House, a magnificent four-story Second Empire building on the banks of the Connecticut River.

Another highlight that will surely give you the “kick” of your sight-seeing is the Gillete Castle whom Gillete astoundingly think of such an idea. The elaborate and bombastic 24-room fieldstone castle costs $1 Million in its time of erection and it was William’s precious ides to come up with such a creation.

Two different sceneries, one big place. Old but still alive. These are all the products of East Haddam’s tastes of wonders.

Edinburge Castle, United Kingdom

Over 300 witches were burned some 250 years ago.

This castle has a dramatic, bloody and even "horror" history. Before you reach the Portculis Gate which is near the entrance to the Escapade beneath, you pass the Witches' Wall where it is said that the 300 witches were burned there. Just before the gate itself is a memorial to Sir William Kirkady who was implicated in the murders of Cardinal Beaton and David Rizzio, Mary Queen of Scots' secretary, and who was later hanged. Above the gate is Constable's or Argyll's Tower where the Marquess of Argyll was imprisoned before his execution in 1661.

This castle which is situated on the crags of Castle Rock also hosts for military purpose as it is also a royal residence. There, you can see the St. Margaret's Chapel, The Royal Mile, Arthur's Seat, Camer Obscura, Kirk of the Greyfriars, the Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyrood house. Remember to pay the entrance fees as you take a sight-see around the views of this castle.
